On 20 November 2024, Professor Alarico Ximenes, Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences at the Universidade Nacional de Timor-Leste (UNTL) and visiting scholar, held a productive meeting with Professor Wei PAN, Director of the Institute for Global and Public Affairs (IGPA) at the University of Macau (UM).
The discussion focused on key issues in global affairs, with particular emphasis on the historic and friendly relations between China and Timor-Leste, and the pivotal role of culture in shaping international relations. Both scholars explored potential areas of academic cooperation between UM and higher education institutions in Timor-Leste, identifying opportunities for joint research projects, faculty exchanges, and collaborative initiatives aimed at strengthening bilateral ties.
This meeting represents more than an academic dialogue – it is a strategic step toward deepening international engagement and fostering mutual understanding. By connecting scholars from Macau and Timor-Leste, the conversation highlighted the shared commitment to advancing knowledge and promoting inclusive global governance.
The IGPA and the Faculty of Social Sciences at UM remain firmly dedicated to China–Portuguese-speaking countries cooperation, actively supporting initiatives that encourage scholarly exchange and capacity building.
