20/11/2024 In a recent interview with CCTV (Portuguese), Associate Professor Francisco Leandro from the University of Macau’s Faculty of Social Sciences (FSS) and Department of Government and Public Administration (DGPA) discussed the significance of Macau’s 25th anniversary as a Special Administrative Region (SAR). The Professor Leandro emphasized Macau’s unique position as a vital platform for fostering relations between China and Portuguese-speaking countries.
During the interview, Professor Leandro also highlighted Macau’s historical and cultural ties with Portuguese-speaking nations, which have been instrumental in enhancing diplomatic and economic exchanges. The Professor Leandro noted that Macau’s bilingual environment and legal system, influenced by both Chinese and Portuguese traditions, provide a robust framework for international cooperation.
Professor Leandro also pointed out that Macau’s strategic location and its role in the Greater Bay Area initiative further strengthen its capacity to serve as a bridge. The SAR’s efforts in hosting forums, trade fairs, and cultural events have significantly contributed to deepening mutual understanding and collaboration.
As Macau celebrates this milestone, Professor Leandro expressed optimism about its future role in global affairs, particularly in enhancing China’s Belt and Road Initiative by leveraging its unique advantages to connect with Portuguese-speaking countries.
