On November 6, 2025, the Institute of Global and Public Affairs at the Faculty of Social Sciences at the University of Macau hosted a lecture under the IGPA 2025 Lecture Series. Professor Lianjiang Li, from the Department of Politics and Public Administration at the University of Hong Kong, delivered a lecture titled “Measuring Regime Support.”
In his lecture, Professor Li explored one of the most fundamental yet complex questions in comparative political studies: how to measure public support for political regimes accurately. Drawing on his extensive research in comparative politics, he highlighted ongoing debates surrounding the conceptualization of both regime and support, and introduced an innovative framework for assessing the structure and intensity of regime support across different political systems.
The discussion that followed saw active engagement from faculty members and students, who exchanged views on methodological challenges in measuring political attitudes, the applicability of regime‑support theories, and the broader implications for understanding political stability in contemporary Asia.
