On 14th of November 2024, Professor Anabela Santiago – visiting scholar from CEI-Iscte and GOVCOPP-University of Aveiro, both Research Centres in Portugal – was at the University of Macau’s Faculty of Social Sciences (FSS) and the Department of Government and Public Administration (DGPA) to conduct a lecture on the topic of Science Diplomacy.
By focusing on the scientific cooperation agreements existing between Portugal and China, this session provided an interactive platform for students to engage with Professor Anabela’s expertise and gain deeper insights into the scientific cooperation between these two nations, inherent obstacles and potentialities.
This initiative reinforces the importance of scientific diplomacy as a tool for bringing countries closer together and as a catalyst for the production of shared knowledge. By highlighting the challenges and opportunities of Portuguese-Chinese cooperation, the session not only promoted critical reflection on the international dynamics of science, but also encouraged students to understand the strategic role of research in building more sustainable and inclusive global relations.
